Sivananda
 
Swami Sivananda (1887-1963)

The Sivanada style of yoga is founded by Swami Sivananda. He is one of the most prolific Yoga teachers who has ever existed. He personally wrote more than 200 books on topics connected to Yoga and Philosophy touching and transforming the lives of many.

Sivanada Yoga is based upon 5 principles of yoga – proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet and meditation. Traditionally, sun saluation is practiced before the asanas. There are 12 basic postures namely Headstand , Shoulderstand , Plough, Fish, Forward bend, Cobra, Locust, Bow, Spinal twist, Crow pose or Peacock pose , Standing forward bend and Triangle. At the end of the session one must do a deeper, final relaxation. Sitting postures for meditation and Pranayama include also the lotus pose..
